The bigger the expectation..

the harder it falls.

:-S

I am a bag of mixed nuts at the moment, after going to the 3:20 show of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Now, as a disclaimer;for those that have yet to see this in the future, you might want to turn a blind eye to this blog entry, and for those who are curious, by all mean, read on!

Going into the movie, I hoped that the movie would ring true to the book. Book 4 being my favourite, next to that of Half-Blood Prince, of course, I had really high expectations. There was so much to it, so much of the mystery unveiled, action, romance, suspense, deaths, and the power of love.

It wasnt a bad movie...It was good, but my expecations were really up there so that's where the disappointment lies, if you get my drift.

Right from the get go, the movie started off the ground, like a dragon in heat, but then this supposed dragon soon realized that it was only really an alligator after all and had mistaken itself as a dragon, and found it self still crawling on the floor.

Okay...kinda weird picture...nm:-/

What is meant by this is that the beginning skipped over many key issues, and snipped out many scenes in just a matter of a few minutes. Those scenes were key, especially when it came to the "nightmares" Harry had been experiencing in the summer time. Granted some things in the book can be skipped over in order to keep the movie under the 3 hour mark, but come on people, the director didnt know where to cross the T's and dot the I's!!

Mad-Moody's eye was a bit off, but okay...and the movie just felt rather "choppy" as my mom complained, which i agree...and this would SURELY be a turn-off to someone who has YET to read the books, leaving them with the sensation of "What the fuck, man? Can i have my 6.50 back?"

It was assuming that the target audience are those that have already read the book, and that is a bit unfair...but I can also see from the standpt of the author Rowlings wanting the keep the book integrity intacked, but come on!

The main emphasis in the director's eye was the "action" aspect, which was good and i give it that just credit, but it took away from the heart of the book. Romances were sparked in scenes and some were quite amusing, but they could have paid a little more attention to detail on that and make it less along the likes of One tree hill or 7th heaven.

Hermione kinda came off as harsh and pushy in this one and it was not how I read it at all in the book. I understood that she had alot of ups and downs but the picture that was painted was like a chagall painting next to a monet....just different styles. I felt like the emphasis on the main characters were a bit wishy-washy and the soul of the matter was not there, relationships were a bit lacking, and things just didnt seem to flow.

Like I said, there were some funny scenes, and i think my favourite comical moment was Hermy, Harry, and Ron in the study hall and Snape hitting Ron and Harry on their heads.

Cedric's death was heartfelt and it made me tear up a bit, but that scene also went faster than the count of 1, and Voldemort...*big sighs*

What the F....okay....Voldemort...in my head, i see him as ruthless and pure evil, minus a little Potter blood after he was resurrected by wormtail...but this director made it so that Voldemort was more cocky than evil and that pissed me off....the movie could have been much darker...much much MUCH darker and that was a bit disappointing...

Maybe a little later in life, say when it comes to video to rent or something along those lines, i would see it again, and put expectations aside.

I feel a bit empty and unimpressed after viewing this movie and I just hope that the next movie, which begins filming in January with a different director, PROVES to not be a stinkbomb at the box office.

*sighs* I think after I am done with the current book im reading, i might retrace my steps back to book 4 to pay homage in my imagination to it.

Hey boo,

Nice review, I had a feeling it'd be something like that, but to me it sounds as if they've compromised more on the story than they should have,..I'm still looking forward to how they pulled off voldy's entrance, Cedrics death was just quick, cold and heartless in the book...but was carried off so well with impact.

You've done well not to reveal too much for unsuspecting bloggers, kudos :P
