I worked on the floor that hosted an auction.
Not just ANY auction, but for the "What's Your Story" private auction being held at Waterstones-Piccadilly in Central London.
I was officially asked by my higher ups to work the event for the evening.:-) I guess they like my customer service skillz.;-)
Anywho, at the event, Margaret Atwood did a presentation on a device called LongPen, hailing all the way from Canada. Basicially what it is, is a digital interpretation of someone's writing/doodles, etc.(with a video hookup so everyone can see each other) that is then copied on to paper.
So, Margaret did her "What's Your Story" via LongPen. She was the creator of it and I do say at least the idea is interesting. All in all, 13 stories written on A5 sized postcards were sold to auction in the name of charity for Dyslexia and EnglishPen, raising around 47k, which included authors such as Nick Hornsby, Neil Gaiman, Doris Lessing, and the big one, J.K. Rowling. Rowling ended up writing an 800-worded "prequel" to Harry Potter, set back 3 years prior to Harry's birth. That ended up going for £25,000(50,000) to some bidder in Japan. That guy is going to make a mint off that!
So....I was there...a part of history.:-) Harry Potter fans....eat your <3 out!

It was my first event I worked at the store and the next is on your birthday, the 5th of July, with Danny Wallace. He is a hilarious guy and I was the one that arranged for him to visit the shop!:-)
I also believe that the Spice Girls are to perform that day in Trafalgar Square(near by), if Im not mistaken. Loads happening that day!
Wow, that was really cool. Did you get to talk to any of the bigshots?
